The Indian Chest Society (ICS) is a not for profit registered society with the Society of Registrars (Registration No. 192-1980, dated 18th July 1980), for Respiratory & Pulmonary and other Physicians with interest in the specialty of Respiratory Medicine. A committee of eminent Chest Physicians, who were also the founding members took up the task to prepare the constitution of the society. The first General Body Meeting was held on 11th September 1981 at Hotel President, Mumbai, and the Constitution was adopted.

QUIZ A group of 12 people in the Southern New England coastal area had shellfish in their lunch along with Alcohol. They were in the coastal area to witness Red Tide. Within 30 minutes, few of them started tingling of lips, tongue, face and neck. Three of them further developed muscular paralysis and respiratory difficulty after 10-12 hours.

Become A Member
  • Associate Membership₹ 12,000

    Eligibility Criteria -

    • Associate members can neither vote nor stand for elections to the Governing Body.
    • PG Students can become Associate members by submitting a certification from their Head of Department stating that they have been registered for an MD in Respiratory Medicine. Upon submission to the ICS, of their MD certificate, their membership will be converted to the Life Membership category.
    • Any other physician holding an MD or diploma may also become an Associate Member of the Society.
  • Life Membership₹ 12,000

    Eligibility Criteria -

    • Life members can vote and stand for elections to the Governing Body.
    • A doctor who is an MD/DM in Respiratory Medicine, from any University.
    • A doctor who is an MD in General Medicine, but is attached to any hospital as a Pulmonary Physician.
    • Diploma holders in Respiratory Medicine or DNB in respiratory Medicine
  • Affiliate Membership₹ 12,000

    Eligibility Criteria -

    • Affiliate members can neither vote nor stand for elections to the Governing Body. However, they would have all other rights.
    • Affiliate members shall be nominated by a Life Member of the ICS.
    • Paramedics, Nurses, Technicians/Therapists, Basic Scientists with experience in Respiratory Medicine are eligible for Affiliate Membership.

A committee of eminent Chest Physicians, who were also the founding members took up the task to prepare the constitution of the society. Indian Chest Society is the organization of qualified Chest Physicians and physicians interested in the field of Respiratory medicine. We are a non-profit making organization devoted to research, academic, educational and patient welfare activities in respiratory medicine.

  • Promoting the dissemination of Knowledge and Research in the field of Respiratory Medicine
  • Organizing academic conferences, meetings and workshops at International, National, Zonal
  • and sub-zonal levels, to bring together the medical fraternity & members of their health care team for the pursuit of knowledge and facilitation of good practices in Respiratory medicine
  • Organizing Patient awareness and educational programmes at various levels to spread knowledge and understanding of the importance of Respiratory diseases
  • Facilitating the creation of trained Medical manpower, required for handling the need of the patients requiring Respiratory & Critical services
  • Supporting the creation and nurture of appropriate technical manpower required to perform and assist in various Diagnostic and Therapeutic activities related to the field of Respiratory & Critical care medicine
  • Running courses for the members and other practitioners in the field of Respiratory medicine.
  • Collaborating with other National and International Societies for the achievement of common goals and facilitate exchange knowledge
  • Promoting basic and advanced research in Respiratory medicine and to create disease registry of various Respiratory diseases in the country.
  • Playing an advocacy role with the Government and other Non-Governmental Organizations for the betterment of the speciality.
  • Doing such acts may be deemed necessary to fulfill the objectives of the Society and its development.

  • I have made the payment for ICS Membership, when will I become a member?

    Your intimation for membership is received when you make the payment. The standard process of providing you with a membership number will take 15-20 days as it involves document verification by ICS and ERS. Also, verification from seconding members is mandatory. Please be patient and if required mail at icsofficeexecutive@gmail.com.
